John is the Founder and Managing Partner of Maverix Private Equity, a private equity firm focused on technology-enabled growth and disruption investment strategies. He chairs the firm’s Investment Committee, guides its strategy, and is actively involved in fundraising, sourcing and leading investment opportunities. He is also the Founder of OMERS Ventures and Co-Founder and Vice Chair of the Council of Canadian Innovators. As CEO of OMERS Ventures, John oversaw more than USD$500 million in investments in over 40 disruptive technology companies across North America, including Shopify, Wattpad, Hootsuite, Hopper, DuckDuckGo, TouchBistro and League. During his tenure at OMERS, he also formed OMERS Platform Investments and OMERS Growth Equity. Previously, John was a Partner at Deloitte, where he held several senior leadership positions within its Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice and served on the Board of Directors. Prior to Deloitte, he was a Partner at Arthur Andersen LLP. John is an active board member in the profit and not-for-profit sectors, including serving on the Dean’s Global Council for the Schulich School of Business. His contributions to Canada’s technology and business sectors have earned numerous distinctions, including being named Canada’s Most Powerful Business Person by Canadian Business Magazine in 2014, receiving the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2018, becoming a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario in 2020, and receiving the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.
